2. Briefly summarise the story in a sentence or two: is this is an example of hard news or soft news? Does it reflect the politics or ideological stance of that newspaper/website?

Both stories are hard news as they are both serious matters. The Mail online story is about a fire that has taken place in Spain where some people sadly didn't make it through. The Guardian story is about Black children in the UK are four times more likely to experience complications after appendicitis surgery than their white counterparts, a study has found. The study, funded by the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland, looked at 2,799 children from 80 hospitals across the UK aged under 16 who had surgery for suspected appendicitis between November 2019 and January 2022.

3. Explain in a sentence how or why this story appeals to the audience of that newspaper (use media terminology and theory if you can). Is it quality journalism or an example of clickbait?

The fire was a serious matter that needed to be addressed and so i believe for that purpose this story appeals to the audience. The other story is also serious as it talks about race and so it'll be quite appealing to the audience.

  1) What example is provided of why visual iconographies are so important? Sometimes these iconographies are enough to act alone,  e.g. the mise en scene of deep space, usually indicates the genre of  sci-fi. Sometimes, however, the iconographies work together to  indicate the genre. Someone sitting behind a desk is not genre  specific.   Research:  1) Use Google to research potential magazines that you could use as your brand/design for this project.  Create a shortlist of  three  potential magazines and embed an example front cover from each one. We recommend looking at lifestyle magazines or a similar genre as these are more achievable to re-create. 2) Choose  one  of the three magazine brands to use for your project e.g GQ, Vogue or The Gentlewoman.
