Blog feedback and learner response

WWW: It’s brilliant to see your Exam blog is 100% up to date which shows how well you’ve stepped up to A Level and independent working. Keep up this level of organisation alongside using media terminology consistently (and highlighting it!) and I’m sure you will make great progress. 

EBI: The key challenge now is adding depth and detail to our blog work and also expanding our media consumption. If you look at your Semiotics or Reading An Image work then you’ve completed the tasks but often answer in one sentence. The more you engage with the questions and explore a range of possible answers or interpretations that better you will do in Media. Similarly, if you broaden your media consumption to include newspapers (via websites is fine!) and podcasts then this will help you target those top grades.


LR: Reflect on your work in A Level Media so far. What is your strongest piece of work? What is your weakest? What specific skills or knowledge do you need to develop over the rest of the course? 

I have to complete my blogs in more detail as i seem to rush it and i believe my strongest piece of work is possibly semiotics and my weakest may be reception theory or reading an image. Also i need to use more media terminology.

Regulation

  1) What is regulation and why do media industries need to be regulated? Systems of regulation are required  to provide rules and regulations to ensure that organisations operate  fairly. In the media industry there are several regulatory bodies that exist  to monitor the way that their industries work. 2) What is OFCOM responsible for? Broadcast media (TV  and Radio) are regulated by OFCOM – the OFfice of COMmunication  and the advertising industry is regulated by the Advertising Standards  Authority. 3) Look at the section on the OFCOM broadcasting code. Which do you think are the three most important sections of the broadcasting code and why? Section 1: Protecting the Under-Eighteens Section 2: Harm and Offence Section 3: Crime I think that the first 3 are the most important as the first one protects under aged children and the rest are for awareness purposes.  4) Do you agree with OFCOM that Channel 4 was wrong to broadcast 'Wolverine' at 6.55pm on a Sunday evening? Magazine practical task research and planning

  Research:  1) Use Google to research potential magazines that you could use as your brand/design for this project.  Create a shortlist of  three  potential magazines and embed an example front cover from each one. We recommend looking at lifestyle magazines or a similar genre as these are more achievable to re-create. 2) Choose  one  of the three magazine brands to use for your project e.g GQ, Vogue or The Gentlewoman. Then f ind  three  different front covers for your chosen magazine and embed them in your blogpost. Analyse the fonts, colours and typical design. What is the language or writing style? How are the cover lines written? What camera shot is generally used for the cover image?
